The Kindergarten art classes recently studied the work of Vincent Van Gogh, a Dutch artist who created his paintings with a series of quick, short, colorful strokes.  Using Van Gogh's painting called The Starry Night as a guide, the students tried their hand at laying color down in a similar style.  They created individual studies, as well as one large group mural (complete with twinkling stars!) using short strokes of oil pastels (also called cray-pas) on colored paper.  Each stroke was created using a "press-drag-lift" technique which took a lot of patience and practice.  The students gained a true appreciation of Vincent Van Gogh's painting style throughout this process, and they are very proud of their own completed artwork as well.
